A little before I moved from Jersey to Florida, I came across an advertisement in a local newspaper for a blogger position for the newspaper itself. At that time, I had my first blog where I basically wrote about whatever came to my heart; it was just a hobby. Anyway, I applied to the blogger position & I submitted a sample blog post with the online application. They turned me down 🚫. They said that I did not "have what it takes" to be a blogger. Ouch 🤒. Surprisingly enough, I didn't feel discouraged because I knew that my writing needed much work. I did, however, decide to stop writing on my old blog, but I wanted to keep my posts in a place where I could easily revisit them without going online. So, I reached out to @blog2print & I had my old blog turned into a book. I then made it one of my priorities to improve my writing by ensuring that the papers that I was writing for school (undergraduate, at that time) were my very best. I used my teachers' critiques & comments to my advantage. I'd occasionally stumble across my "blog book" to read my old posts & I'd cringe at my writing BUT that was a good thing 🙆! That meant that I was improving & I could recognize crappy writing even if it was my own! Well, in the fall of 2015, I decided to launch a new blog, which I still have today & I love very much. What I've learned is that practice truly does make perfect. That is not just a cliché; it is true. I could have easily given up when I was turned down for that blogger position but I didn’t. Instead, I focused on making myself better. It eventually paid off because I was recently asked to be a guest blogger for a brand that means a TREMENDOUS amount to me❣Don't let rejection or stereotypes keep you from your dreams. I may not be the most eloquent writer or speaker, or the youngest, or the one that serves all the eye-candy that "The Gram" craves, but I am ME, unapologetically ME. When I was presented with this incredible opportunity, at first I thought, "Why me? Why not someone else?". I then stopped those thoughts & changed them to ,"Why NOT me?!
